Frequently asked questions

P4H is established by public organizations, the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and IMDEA Food, which have a social vocation and the mission of bringing their scientific knowledge collected over the years to society. For this reason, citizens can access the latest scientific advances in the field of health food at very reasonable prices and with the guarantee of quality, credibility and professionalism offered by Spanish public research.
To achieve health goals, it is important to make the right decisions that best suit your genetic profile. During the last decade, there has been a greater recognition of the importance of how genes influence our nutritional status, which directly affects our health. The human genome consists of about 25,000 genes. Variations in our genes make us unique from each other. Genetic variation determines not only the colour of our eyes and hair, but the way to metabolize and use the food, nutrients and supplements that we ingest. For this reason, genetics is essential, since it shows the small differences responsible for the fact that each human being is different and unique. Understanding your genetic profile will provide you with the necessary tools to make the best dietary and sports performance decisions. Science allows us to use nutrition to its fullest potential to prevent, manage, or improve health problems. Custom diets can optimize a person's nutritional status and empower them to focus on preventing diet-related diseases or conditions. Adapting nutritional needs to the genetic profile of each is the way to maximize the benefits of nutrition on the health status. In addition, some genetic variations discussed in the report are favourable for sports performance, while others may contribute to increased risk of injury or recovery time. Knowing the genetic endowment can influence the way you train and compete, and you will be able to individually adapt training and nutrition. The study of genetics is ultimately like our instruction book. From these instructions, we can take action on environmental factors (diet, training, rest) to try to maximize our strengths and decrease our weaknesses.
Having the specific information about your genetic profile, you will be able to develop the best diet plan to meet your nutrition and physical performance goals. If you follow the recommendations, you will optimize your nutritional status and improve your performance while reducing your risk of injury.
The analysis process only distinguishes human DNA, however, if the sample is highly contaminated, it will affect its quality, which may cause processing problems. If the expected duration of the viral or bacterial process is short, the best option is to wait until it has completely subsided.
In principle, by following the sample collection instructions, you can extract enough DNA. Make sure the swab does not touch any surface other than the inside of your cheek and rub the swab on it to catch mouth cells. If your sample could not be analyzed, we will contact you.

Our tests analyze DNA for genetic variations that affect your response to food. The test does not predict or diagnose any disease or health condition. With the information provided from the test results, your health professional will be able to provide you with dietary advice tailored to your individual genetic profile.
The test results are not intended to advise you on a short-term "diet". The information provided in the report will allow you to make sound dietary decisions for your whole life.
Only you can access the results. Your DNA kit is marked with a unique barcode, which is what we will use in our facilities to analyze the sample. All genetic data is sent through a secure encryption server.
Hygiene in the sample collection is important to carry out the genetic analysis. If you have dropped it on the floor or you think that the sample or the material could have been contaminated, you need to take the sample again, respecting the hygienic conditions. Contact us to send you a sample collection kit again.
Genetics conditions certain predispositions, but fortunately we are not sentenced by it. In contrast to genetic factors, there are modifiable factors such as diet, health care, physical exercise, contamination, etc., that will play a fundamental role in genetic predisposition. In this way, we may have genetics less favourable to some characteristic, but on the other hand we may have habits that counteract these genetics and its effect. It can also happen that, having favourable genetics for a certain characteristic, our lifestyle habits are unhealthy and have a long-term negative effect. Knowing our genetic characteristics can therefore help us determine which areas we should pay more attention to counteract the effect of our genetics.

About the P4h test

We ask you to indicate your race to ensure that this test adjusts to your genetic characteristics based on the population to which you belong. Not all populations are equal at the genetic level, biological evolution is in charge of this in order to adapt living beings to the characteristics of the environment in which they live. For example, melanin is the pigment that gives colour to the skin, and in Africa, due to the high frequency of sun exposure, the skin is dark to protect itself from ultraviolet rays harmful to our skin. However, when our ancestors travelled to cold climates, they were losing melanin in order to capture the solar rays that allowed them to assimilate vitamin D. Therefore, the predisposition to certain genetic characteristics varies from one population to another. Thus, although a high percentage of the population has lactose intolerance, in the case of the peoples of northern Europe this percentage is significantly lower, since when living away from the sea and in less favourable climatic conditions for agriculture, the consumption of dairy became a form of survival. This generated over several generations a genetic variation that allowed to stop producing lactase, the enzyme that digest lactose. Data on sex, age, weight and height are taken only for statistical purposes. The recommendations provided in the report derive exclusively from the genetic data of each person.
Your sample will be stored in our secure and controlled access facilities and labelled only with your unique barcode. As new discoveries are made in the field of nutrigenomics, we may add additional information to our reports, and we may have new panels available with additional cutting-edge information.
Of course. In fact, children are the age group that can obtain greater benefits from their Health Map. Since they have their whole life ahead of them, they are those who have the most opportunities to modify their environmental factors and their life habits.

For P4H, privacy, confidentiality and security are fundamental and indispensable. To prevent unauthorized access, the correct use of information and the non-disclosure of this data, we use a large number of computer encryption measures, in addition to physical, technical and administrative measures in accordance with current legislation and the importance of data we manage.

But also, for a correct preservation of the information, your collaboration is necessary, choosing a correct password.

We encourage you to read our terms of use and conditions if you need additional information.

Of course, you can buy as many DNA tests as you want. Since the results are personal, orders for other people will be made using the gift voucher on the web. What better gift can you give to a loved one than to give them unique and valuable information provided by the genetic test? You will dazzle them with such an original gift.
No, it is not an intolerance test nor is it an allergy test. P4H products are genetic predisposition tests.
